Toshiba
Company Profile ( http://www.toshiba.co.jp/worldwide/ )
In 1875, Hisashige Tanaka established Japan's first telegraph
equipment manufacturing company, known as Tanaka Engineering
Works (Tanaka Seizosho), which in 1904 was renamed as Shibaura
Engineering Works (Shibaura Seisakusho). In 1890, another
company named Hakunetsusha became Japan's first incandescent
electrical lamp manufacturing company and was in 1899 renamed
as Tokyo Electric (Tokyo Denki). These two companies, namely,
Shibaura Engineering Works and Tokyo Electric merged together
in 1939 and formed another company Tokyo Shibaura Denki. It
became popular as Toshiba and in 1984 was officially renamed
as Toshiba Corporation. The corporation is a widely diversified
group with companies like Toshiba EMI (1960), Toshiba Electrical
Equipment (1974), Toshiba Chemical (1974), Toshiba Lighting
and Technology (1989), Toshiba American Information Systems
(1989) and Toshiba Carrier Corporation (1999). It caters to
the electronics & engineering industry, with products
ranging from digital telephony, electronic devices & components
to home appliances and others. It employs approximately 165,000
people and the revenue for the fiscal year ended March 31,
2006, was 6,343,506 million Yen.
Pros And Cons
The Toshiba Qosmio G35 laptop notebook features 2 GHz Intel
processor with Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology. It has
100 GB hard drive capacity and notebook memory of 1 GB. The
weight is 10.14 lbs, which is a bit heavy to carry around.
The display is beautiful and has stunning overall performance.
The price is a bit on the higher side but is certainly worth
it. Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop features Intel Pentium (1.73
GHz), 1 GB DDR SDRAM, 15.4 inches TFT active matrix widescreen,
wireless LAN and 100 GB HDD. The weight is 6.0 lbs. The after
sales service is not great, there is no built-in TV card,
web cam, bluetooth, and the sound is weak. The processor becomes
very hot. It is pretty appealing to look at and the price
is reasonable. The battery life is poor, and the screen resolution
could be better. Toshiba Tecra M4 Tablet PC has good video
performance. The fan is too noisy, battery life is dismal,
screen glare makes it hard to see, and the mouse cursor jerks
under heavy usage. It is also a bit on the expensive side.
It works great for taking notes, but has too much of its own
applications like 00THotkey, TRot, thpsrv, TPSMain, etc.,
almost 25 applications running, which uses around 370 MB just
for the commit charge, which is a bit more than usual. Works
fine with multimedia designing, and application development.
Toshiba Satellite M105 features Intel Core Solo processor
T1350, 1.86 GHz with Intel Centrino technology, 512 MB RAM,
60 GB HDD, 14.1 inch WXGA TFT Display, and 8X DVD/24x10x24
Combo Drive. This is a lightweight model and the glossy reflective
screen display is a bit too shiny. This is a sturdy notebook
that can be used for heavy usage over a long time. The power/weight
combination is superb and the price is reasonable. The power
jack is a bit weak and once it breaks the service is not up
to the mark. It is overall a well-built machine, has a sturdy
construction, an average battery life, but has poor WiFi capability.
Most of the included software is for trial only and the free
AOL is very slow in connecting to the net. However, the setup
is very easy and the price is reasonable.
